It allows us to sidestep frustrating configuration issues that are more common with windows in this day and age, such as an inability to set up local accounts during the setup wizard or domain join without the use of hidden command line tools and functions (BypassNRO etc). The use of these golden images is critical in our environment as we are required to regularly facilitate short-notice builds - factory resets or fresh deployments; being able to minimise human interaction means we are able to prioritise current workloads and don't have to invest time or energy to ensure mission critical apps and security configurations (Such as corporate VPN, Security GPO's tied to specific OUs, etc) are always consistantly applied without concern for human error. Remote node support allows us to handle full hardware refreshes in branch offices and remote location independently; a feature that has saved me countless hours of work. > > **Inconvénients**: PXE networking can require some specific configs for DHCP settings and firewall rules; getting this right the first time is important as it can get complicated when dealing with differing subnets and VLANs. It can also encounter the occasional boot error but this is usually down to the individual hardware/BIOS settings; such as encountering secureboot or legacy/non UEFI boot issues, but as indicated these tend to fall more on the side of the hardware/laptop manufacturer and it's individual BIOS settings than on the OS Deployer tool itself. As with most of the ManageEngine suite, the interface feels clunky and not very modern and it's not uncommon to find 'unofficial' terminologies or typo's/spelling mistakes on some occasions, although where it lacks finishing polish it absolutely makes up for in practical function. This also feels quite trivial considering it's only ever a handful of admins that interface with the GUI. > > OS Deployer delivers a reliable and streamlined imagine and cloning tool that's very well suited for smaller IT teams, helping battle distribution of resources regarding workstation refreshes, hardware swaps and additional site deployments. While the initial configuration can take some trial and error with PXE and networking settings, once figured out it operates in a most set-and-forget manner with not much need for maintenance or admin intervention.
